Mike J's done a find job of journalling the trip with GPS tracks and lots of nice stills. I'm the videographer so I'll let my pictures do the talking. Just some exerpts from the hour long documentary of the trip..
cheers

Blustery May Day Paddle
Good day for a gear shakedown. Borrowed a Current
Designs Storm from school and strapped all the nav gear on the deck for a quick paddle out to Chatham Island. Thought I'd figure out how the GPS actually worked on deck. Just in case, I had a compass forward to keep an eye on heading. Left at 11:40 from Gyro Beach down from the University as an Ocean River Sports crew was getting in from their level 2 course. Wind was light but building with an offshore low storming in. Low tide had just turned and I'd be paddling a building flood tide and a westerly (10-15 kn). See the track from GPS visualizer.
